Yellow / Mercury

Mercury is the God of Travel, Business and Finance, and Messages.

He is usually depicted with winged sandals and/or a helmet, and is often associated with the color yellow.

As you watch the burning of this yellow candle, one dedicated to Mercury and illuminated by Vesta (because the flame is always Vesta), let your body settle into a state of relaxation and reflect upon Mercury’s fairly practical aspects.

Is some kind of move or change in your living situation on your mind? Maybe you need to get away from a place, person or circumstance that isn’t working for you.

Watch the flame and the wax move, and tap into your deepest, most authentic emotions and thoughts about that. You may intuit that, yes, a move is necessary and in your best interests.

Or you may determine that it won’t make any difference, and that you are just as far ahead maintaining the status quo of your living situation and either accepting whatever issue you’re facing or trying to change it from where you.

Perhaps a move is in your future because of a life transition - a new job, a new relationship, or even the end of one of those. There will be good and challenging parts of a move that was motivated by those things…think about and accept that as you watch the candle melt.

Yet whatever you’re facing, or whatever has necessitated a move, don’t be afraid! You’re never as alone on a path as you may feel, and the old sentiment is true - the path less traveled can make all the difference.

It may also be that recreational travel is in your future or just in your hopes. Do you long for new surroundings and a new adventure?

Perhaps you want to embrace the larger world and the people, places, and things we experience when we travel. You might be a youthful backpacker or a mature expat, but either way, the world is a big place - if you want to cover some ground, start planning in a practical way.

Yet travel isn’t cheap, is it? Perhaps that’s why Mercury is also the god of finances, merchants and enterprises.

If you are thinking about starting a new venture, this candle burn is the time to rid yourself of all distractions, to focus on the flame and shifting wax, and to look for signs and ideas in that process. Go deep into your own mind—your business mind!—to brainstorm ways you can improve your finances.

This may mean embracing the entrepreneurial spirit, getting a better or second job, or going back to school to improve your credentials. Yet there’s a saying - it isn’t what you make, it’s what you keep. Maybe you simply need to budget and start spending less and saving more.

As the messenger god, it is Mercury’s spirit, combined with your intuition and intelligence, that can help improve the way you communicate and connect with other people in your life. Try to see things from their perspective, have empathy and humility, and find common ground. Doing so can help you better understand and communicate with someone, whether it’s a co-worker, a family member or a romantic partner.

It often happens in life that we get “stuck” waiting for some kind of message or sign that it’s okay to move ahead, or leave something behind, or take some kind of action. As you watch the candle burn and reflect on your own life, you might want to ask yourself whether you’ve been waiting for this kind of message...this kind of permission in some way.  If so, maybe it’s time to stop waiting. It’s your life.

As with all the candles in this candle-burning series, this yellow Mercury-dedicated one burned with the characteristics of the god it is associated with. It burned quite quickly and spread out more than any of the other candles, almost in four points, if spreading to the four corners of the Earth. Perhaps that is a message in itself!

Come back to this candle burning video whenever you need to reflect upon or embrace the aspects of Mercury, always tapping into your intuition to better understand yourself, to make peace with the past, to find perspective, inspiration and guidance in the present, and to feel hope for the future.
